Programs
The Pediatric Healthy Life Center offers a variety of clinical services. After the original visit, where a comprehensive evaluation is performed, a more focused, individualized approach is provided through the following programs:
Lipid Clinic:
This clinic focuses on the management of high blood cholesterol, high triglycerides and abnormal good cholesterol (HDL). We will assess the cardiac and stroke risks for the future. We will provide extensive education as well as treatment for any cholesterol disorders.
Pre-diabetic/Diabetes Clinic:
This clinic is focused on the prevention or the management of diabetes. It only deals with Type 2 Diabetes.
Nutrition Clinic:
This clinic specializes in the evaluation of children with nutritional problems such as malnutrition, weight loss, failure to thrive, eating disorders and food allergies.

Bariatric Preparation Program:
This clinical program allows the patient to fulfill all necessary requirement to qualify medically for gastric reduction surgery. Although this does not guarantee approval, this clinical program will provide the best chances to qualify.
Weight Loss Surgery
Introduction
Weight loss surgery is the last resort to manage morbid obesity and its complications. The State of Alabama Medicaid provides coverage for young adults who fulfill the medical and insurance criteria.
These criteria are:
1. Six months of medically supervised weight loss attempts through therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC).
2. Age 18—19 years old (Medicaid stops after age 19).
Other insurance companies also provide coverage and their criteria are outlined in the certificate of coverage found in the insurance package given to you at the time of enrollment.
